About the film

The Minquan Primary School was destroyed by mudslide during the Typhoon Morakot hit Taiwan. The Delta Group and the Delta Foundation decided to sponsor the recovery of the school in 2009. It was designed as both an eco-school and a community shelter. It was awarded the Diamond Grade by the Green Building Council in Taiwan. Its design features energy efficiency ; its application of renewable energy technology can support a self-sustained shelter during disaster. Since its completion in 2011, more than thousand indigenous people from the area have made use of the school as a shelter. Therefore, they don’t need to experience a forced-eviction from their homelands during flooding season. The eco-school has enable the indigenous community’s to better cope with extreme climate and minimize crisis of community livelihood and culture.

About the film
In 2009, the Rukai Settlement (New Houcha) was flooded during the typhoon Morakot hit Taiwan. It also destroyed the historical trail leading to Kucapungane, where the Rukai had been living for hundred years- the lands of the formosan clouded leopard. The tribe was relocated again to Rinari. The Rukai still overcome challenges, trying hard to restore the trail leading home. They collectively planned, restored, and documented the whole process of trail recovery. Directed by young men from the tribe, Faliyos Afiyaw and Binalriw Kadrupungan, this film presents the extent to which the Rukai wants to go back home. The project was sponsored by Tencent Foundation, Red Cross Society of China Jet Li One Foundation Project and supervised by the National Taiwan University Building and Planning Foundation August 8 Post-disaster Reconstruction Project.
